We are seeking an part-time/on-call Oiler to join our Ohana. This position will be located in Okinawa, Japan.


Responsible for operating and maintaining the main engines, generators and other mechanical and electrical systems onboard RSC-2.  Assist the engineer with maintenance and operation of the HSMSTs. While out at sea, the oiler will work with the deck department as a deck hand.  Duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Safe operation and routine maintenance of the vessel's propulsion, auxiliary and other mechanical systems in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations of the vessel's flag, the international community, Company policies and procedures, and the manufacturer's recommendations in a manner responsible to the safety of the crew.
  • The oiler is under the direct supervision of the 4000 HP Designated Diesel Engineer. The oiler is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the main propulsion engines, generators, and all other mechanical systems onboard the boat.
  • Responsible care and use of the vessel's consumable spares, mechanical stores and tools inventories
  • While out to sea, the oiler will assist the deck department as a deck hand.


Possess the following valid certifications and/or licenses:

  • The Oiler must possess a U.S. Coast Guard OMED (Qualified Member of the Engine Room Department) license.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, reference checks and background check.
  • Must have sufficiently acute hearing, eyesight and depth perception to meet the demands of at-sea service.

Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Lift and move equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Move equipment that is heavy, large, and awkward, sometimes from one level to another.
  • Use portable ladders or stools to allow them to work on systems that are located in the overhead section of machinery spaces.  Repairs may require that incumbents reach into small, poorly accessible areas of machinery.
  • Work on equipment that has pressurized or hot components; secure or segregate systems to provide an adequate safety margin.  Accomplish appropriate lock out tagout to protect shipboard personnel and equipment.  
  • Troubleshoot equipment that is difficult to reach.
  • Work in areas that have high noise levels.
  • Work in an area that may experience periods of darkness in unusual situations; and work in confined and restricted spaces.
  • Demonstrate sufficient physical dexterity to enable them to manipulate small items in restricted spaces or large objects when using mechanical lifting devices.
  • Performing assigned emergency duties without undue danger to himself /herself or the vessel.
